Arugamama Ready Adelaide Riches - 4th Nov 22
Australian Racing Hall of Fame inductee, Leon Macdonald, thought so highly of our gorgeous chestnut filly Arugamama he nominated her for the Thousand Guineas before she had even raced. Her short sharp preparations and the way she had come back from her spell in the Adelaide hills had give Leon some confidence heading into the spring.
While time beat us to have her ready leading into the Guineas she was ready to race in October. Leon picked out a maiden race at Gawler on Gawler Cup Day on October 21. Leon said to us before the race she will find the 1000m too sharp but we’d like to see her hitting the line. From her wide gate she never got on the track and covered more ground than the Leyland Brothers. She managed a 4th placing and was still strong through the line and we knew with any luck she would have won the race easily.
The next race Leon picked out was a Class 1 3yo race at Morphetville on Saturday 5th November. There were four last start winners in the race and we were going in as a maiden. Again the distance of 1250m while a step up from Gawler it was still likely to be too short. She ran a very good third after striking trouble. Her work in the last 100m when she regained her momentum and then through the line gave us all goose bumps.
Leon with an eye on the future elected to spell her as his view is she needed to get to the paddock to be ready for the big races in the Autumn which will be her time. She is a tall rangy filly and with the spring sun on her back she will furnish into a very exciting staying prospect in a few months time. We cannot wait to see what she can do next preparation. Her half sister, Pretty Punk, won the Hobart Cup and we are dreaming of Oaks and maybe even Cups with this girl. Arugamama, you’ve given us a taste of your brilliance and we can’t wait to see you back for the Adelaide Carnival.
